Paranormal is an umbrella term for a variety of anomalous phenomena. In parapsychology, it is used to describe the ostensibly psychic phenomena of telepathy, extra-sensory perception, psychokinesis, ghosts, hauntings, etc.. The term is also applied to UFOs, Cryptozoology, and other non-psychical subjects. Paranormal is often used to denote unusual experiences that lack an obvious scientific explanation. Stories relating to paranormal phenomena are widespread in modern society and folklore, but the United States National Science Foundation has stated that mainstream science does not support paranormal beliefs.

Ohio Paranormal was founded in July of 2003 by Jason Michael Colwell. At that time, there was not a single group in existence that used those terms in their title. Now there are a few. Jason originally came up with the name while brainstorming with Philip Niklas. He wanted to keep it simple, yet true to the focus of the group. He and several of his friends had multiple types of paranormal experiences during the course of their lives. The original and on going goal of Ohio Paranormal is to present information on a wide variety of paranormal phenomena, experienced by a variety of individuals, with an obvious emphasis on our home state of Ohio.

So what paranormal topics do we investigate and gather information on?

HAUNTINGS:

Hauntings are definitely our number one pursuit. Why? Many of our members have had first hand experiences with haunting activity. For many of us, ghost experiences introduced us to the reality of paranormal phenomena. Our investigative strength is primarily in this field. We have investigated many public locations and private homes, gathering Electronic Voice Phenomena, shooting photographs, and taking video. Electronic Voice Phenomena, or EVP, is by far the easiest of the three main media to get results from, but we will cover all of that in other sections.

We took a new approach beginning in 2008 to the way that we handle private residence cases. Up until then, the focus had been attempting to gather any physical evidence for the homeowner that we could, and we continue to do that, but we also are much more focused with follow up visits and helping our clients learn to cope with what they are experiencing. Our personal group opinion, is that most hauntings can be dealt with. Sometimes embraced and lived with. We know, the number one thing those living with a haunting need is support; Someone to listen, believe, and help to decide what steps would be the most beneficial.

UFO REPORTS AND FLAP INVESTIGATION:

Beginning in 2008, we now take UFO reports. We also go on location in Ohio when a "flap" or prolonged ongoing experiences are being reported. A few of us have witnessed unidentified flying objects ourselves at different points in our lives. Our group believes that the equipment that we use to document hauntings can just as easily be used to investigate and document UFO sightings.

We do not have a stance on whether or not aircraft are coming to our planet piloted by aliens, but are open to the possibility. All we do know is that strange things are being seen in the sky throughout the world, that are not getting properly explained, and we feel this is an area worth investigating to attempt to uncover some answers.
